Abstract
Entrepreneurship is of strategic importance for the socio-economic stability of regions because small and medium-sized enterprises directly contribute to the creation of new jobs, the expansion of local production, and the enhancement of competitiveness. This study aims to comprehensively assess the entrepreneurial environment in Nakhchivan at analytical, practical, and strategic levels, and define the main directions for the successful implementation of the State Program on Socio-Economic Development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The study is based on both qualitative and quantitative data and includes the region’s actual economic indicators and survey results from entrepreneurs. The authors surveyed more than 100 entrepreneurs operating across various sectors. The collected data reflect the situation of entrepreneurs across key areas, including access to financial resources, market opportunities, workforce development, and technological and digital solutions. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistical methods and qualitative analysis techniques. The study’s results reliability is ensured by the use of official statistical sources and by survey participants’ anonymity. The study results indicate that the majority of entrepreneurs in the region are young business initiators, with their businesses primarily engaged in trade and online sectors. In terms of workforce size, small family-run businesses prevail. These indicators show that entrepreneurship in Nakhchivan is developing rapidly, yet gaps remain in long-term strategic planning, efficient use of financial resources, and the expansion of market opportunities. The main problems faced by entrepreneurs include financial and investment shortages, limited customer base, intense competition, and insufficient workforce training. These challenges not only affect daily operations but also hinder the implementation of innovative projects, the development of new products and services, and technological modernization. At the same time, transparent, strategically targeted state support and incentives are crucial to ensuring the long-term sustainability of entrepreneurs and enhancing regional competitiveness. This study provides an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the development prospects of entrepreneurship in Nakhchivan and offers guidance for formulating future socio-economic policies.
