Abstract

The development of financial science and the system of training highly qualified specialists is primarily determined by the activities of outstanding scientists, whose scientific ideas and pedagogical practice shape entire scientific schools. A significant contribution to the formation and development of financial science, in particular agrarian finance, was made by Academician Mykola Demyanenko, whose scientific and educational activities combined deep theoretical research with a practical focus. This article aims to summarise the main stages of Academician Mykola Demyanenko’s (1935–2020) life, study his scientific and educational heritage, and examine his contributions to the training of specialists in the field of agrarian finance. The methodological basis of the study is the authors’ content analysis of the materials of the round table “Academician Mykola Yakovych Demyanenko: Development of Scientific Heritage (to the 90th Anniversary of His Birth)”, which allowed for generalising the main professional achievements of the outstanding Ukrainian scientist, Academician Mykola Demyanenko. The results of the study indicate that a significant achievement of Academician Mykola Demyanenko, which had a synergistic effect on the scientific and educational activities, was the practical implementation of the idea of separating the finances of agricultural enterprises within the financial system as a separate link in the financial system of business entities. The scientific legacy of the scientist comprises 554 scientific papers, 10 doctoral theses, and 57 candidate theses, which were defended under his scientific guidance. Additionally, he established a scientific and practical cluster of institutions for implementing research results in practice and the educational process, with his participation. The Department of Finance and Credit at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, established on its initiative, annually graduates more than 30% of the Faculty of Economics’ students (over 6,000 people since its foundation). As a renowned scientist and educator, Mykola Demyanenko made a significant contribution to the development of financial science and the training of specialists in the field of agricultural finance, while also leaving an invaluable legacy to future generations in two related fields. Therefore, the assessment of his scientific and educational heritage is the task of contemporaries and future generations of researchers.
